Final Fantasy XIV by Square Enix is such a great MMORPG game that makes it easy to have fun with friends.

However, it’s easy to feel as if the user interface gets in the way sometimes, because the UI HUD elements (such as the main hotbar slots and progress bar) take up a lot of space in the middle of the screen. It isn’t exactly what I would call a minimal UI.

And there might be times when you want to just take in the beautiful visuals in the game. Fx when you want to take screenshots it’s nice to hide the UI HUD.

See how to take screenshots using PrtSc key or the GPose tool for cool group pose photos of your party members here.

In this article, you’ll see how to hide the UI HUD in FFXIV for both PC and PlayStation. It’s pretty simple.

How to Hide the UI in FFXIV – PC version.

When playing on PC, hiding the UI HUD layout is very simple.

The easiest way is to simply press the scroll lock [ScrLk, ScrLk, or Slk] key on your keyboard and the UI will disappear.

TIP: If for some reason your keyboard doesn’t have a dedicated Scroll Lock key (like some Logitech and laptop keyboards don’t), you can change the default keybindings in FFXIV from the main menu. Simply follow these 5 simple steps for easy access:

  1. Press ESC to open the Main System Menu [or press minus – on the numeric keyboard]
  2. Click on Keybind
  3. Click on System
  4. Navigate to Toggle UI Display Mode
  5. Click in the Window where it says “Scroll Lock” and assign a new key binding that fits your personal preference (I use Shift+U).

So even if you don’t have a Scroll Lock button it’s easy to assign your own keybind in the system configuration.

How to Hide the UI HUD in FFXIV on PS4

Of course, Final Fantasy XIV isn’t exclusive to the PC. This game is also very popular on various video game consoles.

The most popular console for playing FFXIV is currently the PS4. You can hide the UI HUD by pressing the right buttons on your PS4 controller.

To hide the UI HUD using the DualShock 4, you’ll simply need to press the L1 button in conjunction with the touchpad button.

When you wish to bring the UI HUD back up, simply use the same button combination. It’s always fast to make the UI HUD disappear and reappear.

You’re also unlikely to accidentally make the UI HUD disappear since you wouldn’t have another reason to press L1 and the touchpad at the same time.

What About PS3?

Are you still playing FFXIV on the Playstation 3? PS3 players can make the UI HUD disappear in almost the same way as PS4 players.

DualShock 3 controllers don’t have a touchpad, but they do have the select button. Press L1 at the same time as the select button to make the UI HUD go away, and then press it once more to bring everything back up.

Why Would You Want to Hide the UI HUD in FFXIV?

Hiding the hot bar, mouse cursor, and the rest of the current UI element in FF14 is useful for a number of reasons.

First, you might simply feel that it takes up too much space. That’s why it’s also a good idea to create different hotbar layouts – and even a second hotbar for some jobs.

Second, it’s good for when you wish to do a screen capture in the GPose photo mode. Sometimes you might want to capture screenshots of your characters or even try to take a group photo with your gaming buddies.

Third, it’s nice to be able to remove the UI HUD in FFXIV altogether when you just want to take in the surroundings in this beautiful game.

You can also use third-party tools to take screenshots with greater utility. One of the most popular ways to do this is to use the GPose tool since it allows you to adjust lighting, color shading, and add frames.

Taking screenshots on the PS4 is also quite simple. Hit the share button on the DualShock 4 to take a picture of whatever you’re doing in the game.

You can then share the pictures on social media or send them to friends. Go take pictures and have fun trying to get the best shots possible.

You can see a complete list of the default keybindings here.
