While it is rare to log out of League of Legends, you may find yourself in a scenario where you need to log out. If you have never done it before, it can seem complicated, especially as there is no explicit log-out button when the game client is open.
Luckily though, here is a helpful little guide showing you the best options for logging out of League of Legends.

Logging Out Via Game Client
The easiest way to log out of League of Legends is via the LoL client. It is a quick, easy, and surefire way to log out without any potential issues. Just follow these simple steps:
How to Log Out of League of Legends:
- Open your League of Legends client.
- at the top right corner of the client will be an option to minimize or close League of Legends.
- Press the close button (X) to close the client.
- a small pop-up window appears. It will have two options: “Exit” and “Sign Out.” Exit closes the client without signing you out, while the logout option logs you out completely.
- Select “Sign Out” to be logged out from the client.
There you go! Next time when you open the League of Legends client, you will be prompted to re-enter your login information.
Alternative Logout Options
While logging out via the game client makes the most sense, there are four additional methods to log out of League of Legends. They are: using Alt + F4, ending the task in task manager, performing a hard reset, and changing your password.
Why would you want to use these methods, though?
Well, the Alt + F4 and task manager methods can be used to leave games you are in. The other two are last-ditch efforts if your game client becomes unresponsive.
So let’s take a look at the first alternative method:
Alt + F4 Method
As every gamer has likely learned through a prank by friends, Alt + F4 functions the same way as if you had pressed the close button on your game client. It closes the program you are currently in and is an easy method to close your game client and get to the sign-out option if you cannot close your game client via the close button (X).
Task Manager
When games become unresponsive, an annoying and unfortunate time, sometimes you have to open up your task manager application to end the task. After opening the Task Manager, scroll down the list of tasks until you find League of Legends. Right-click on it and then press End Task. This should close League of Legends.
To open the task manager on a Windows PC, simply press Ctrl + Shift + Escape.
This is a handy shortcut to remember whenever a video game, web browser, or application encounters an unexpected error or the game freezes.
Performing a Hard Reset
If your game client becomes unresponsive and the Windows OS task manager is not working, performing a hard reset on your computer will likely be your best bet. Usually, to perform this, you can just hold down the power button until the computer switches off.
Changing Your League of Legends Password
As a last resort, you can always create a new password. When you change your Riot password, you are automatically logged out of any device you are currently signed into. If you think your League of Legends account was hacked, creating a new password is your best option.
Importance of Logging Out
Now, if you are like most of us, you choose the “Keep Me Signed In” option when logging into League because no one wants to spend time constantly signing back in.
So, why should you first log out of your LoL account?
Well, there are several security reasons why you may decide to log out of League of Legends. Fx, if you’re using a computer on a public system such as your school or an eSports center/gaming cafe, anyone can access your account information by opening the game launcher.

Someone could open your game client, see your sign-in credentials, spend your currencies, read messages, and even screw up your game rank.
Playing online games such as the League of Legends game on public computers could lead to identity theft in the worst-case scenario. Or it could lead to permanent bans from your favorite video games.
In short, if you’re not on a personal system or consistently have others around, the best option is always to sign out.
Do you think League of Legends is dying? Here’s my take on it.
Conclusion
Whenever you and your friends are not gaming on your personal laptops but public computers somewhere, you should always remember to log out of League of Legends. Not logging out leaves open a potential threat to your login details and other personal information.
