Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2) is an open-world action-adventure game set in a fictionalized version of the American Wild West.

It was developed by Rockstar Studios and published by Rockstar Games. The game was released to critical and commercial acclaim on October 26, 2018, for Playstation 4 and Xbox One.

It would take until November 2019 for the game to come to PC and Stadia.

RDR2 vs. RDO – what’s the difference?

An online multiplayer mode (sometimes referred to as RDR2 Online) broke out of the game and is now a standalone application called Red Dead Online (RDO). This is where the online multiplayer part of the game takes place.

If you own Red Dead Redemption 2, you already have access to RDO, but you can also purchase it as a standalone if you prefer.

I understand this can be a bit confusing to new players. But RDR2 Online and RDO is the same game, except now RDO can be purchased as a standalone application.

My point is that if you ask if Red Dead Redemption 2 is cross-platform, it’s the same as asking if RDO is cross-platform because there’s no co-op or other multiplayer modes in the RDR2 single-player campaign – though that would be cool.

I’ve already covered crossplay in RDO, so you can read the answers there – or keep reading to see the answers below. The conclusion is the same.

What is Red Dead Redemption 2? – A quick overview.

  • Game Developer: Rockstar Studios
  • Game Publisher: Rockstar Games
  • Genre: Action-adventure, open-world, Western game

In Red Dead Redemption 2 you play Arthur Morgan, a lieutenant in the Van der Linde gang in 1899.

The gang realizes that the progress of civilization is going to put an end to the time of outlaws, and this forces them to leave an area known as Blackwater. They attempt to earn enough money so that they can retire.

A series of events change Arthur’s relationship with the gang, and you’ll be left to discover what happens to Arthur Morgan by playing the game.

Gameplay

You can play Red Dead Redemption 2 from either a first-person or third-person perspective. As like was the case with Red Dead Redemption, you can explore a large world map and do many different activities.

There is an engrossing narrative that you can follow, but there will also be tons of side content to dig into. You’ll be able to go hunting, take on bounties, play mini-games, and do many other activities.

There is also a morality system in place that will change your moral alignment based on your actions in the game.

You can choose to be an honorable man, but you could also be a scoundrel if you do terrible deeds.

RDR2 is a huge game that will take a long time to finish if you get sidetracked by all available quests and activities.
