What is Rust? – A brief explanation for new players.

  • Game Developer: Facepunch Studios, Double Eleven
  • Game Publisher: Facepunch Studios
  • Genre: Survival, multiplayer

The gameplay in Rust is entirely based on trying to survive in the wilderness, and there isn’t a narrative to speak of like you find in a game like Conan Exiles, DayZ, or Ark Survival fx.

At the start of the game, you’ll only have a rock and a torch that you can use. You can use the rock as a weapon and also help you knock down trees.

Gathering resources will allow you to make better weapons, and you’ll need them if you want to survive long. This open-world experience can be very dangerous if you encounter better-equipped players.

Since this is a multiplayer title, there will be a component of other players to deal with. You’re competing with other players for resources that can be used to survive.

There are other threats, such as wild animals, but the true foe in this game will be the other players attempting to take what you have.

What platforms are Rust available for?

Rust is available for:

  • PC (Microsoft Windows)
  • Mac (macOS)
  • Xbox One
  • Xbox Series X|S – through backward compatibility
  • PlayStation 4 (PS4)
  • PlayStation 5 (PS5) – through backward compatibility
